Best Dog Walks in Harrogate

Updated: Feb 4, 2020

As a dog owner, it's always nice to find new dog walking routes that both you and your pooch can explore together so we have put together 3 of the best dog walks in Harrogate.

Crimple Valley

Crimple Valley, located on the south-east side of Harrogate, is a beautiful dog walk that includes everything from picturesque woodlands, wide open fields and this walk even has a beck, perfect for paddling.

If you head to Harrogate Squash Club, there is ample parking where you can take your time getting your dog on the lead ready to start your dog walk.

You can start by heading into Hooky Woods or head towards the Yorkshire Showground where you will see big open fields with a gravel paths so no need to worry about muddy shoes.

If you carry on heading to the bottom of Crimple Valley, you will find Crimple Beck (alternatively known as the River Crimple) where your dog can enjoy a paddle in the water whilst you watch on from the beach area.

There isn't just one dog walking route at Crimple Valley so my advice is to head down there and explore! You'll soon found find a new route both you and your dog will love!

Nidderdale Green Way

At the bottom of Bilton Lane you will find the Nidderdale Greenway which links Harrogate to gorgeous village of Ripley. A 4 mile walk that will have you pass wildflower meadows, beautiful woodlands and golden wheat fields.

When you reach Ripley, you can reward yourself with one of Ripley's Famous ice creams! If you're not up for the walk back, hop on the bus that runs through the village back into Harrogate town centre.

Swinsty Reservoir

Swinsty Reservoir, nestled in the beautiful Washburn Valley is a great walk that the whole family can join you on. It has multiple car parks and a gravel path that wraps round the entire reservoir.

If your dog enjoys paddling in water or playing fetch, Swinsty is ideal as the path is never to far away from the waters edge or pockets of woodland. This walk is more or less flat the whole way round so you don't have to worry about puffing and panting up hills. There is also various rest points dotted along the walk so you can sit down and take in the spectacular views.

The walk is roughly 3 miles long but if you want to go even further you can take on it's neighbouring reservoir, Fewston too.
